LPA Outside PAR May Intensify Into Tropical Depression PAGASA Says

PAGASA is now monitoring a low-pressure area outside the country’s vicinity might intensify the tropical depression in the next 24 hours.

On Friday (January 18, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest weather updates in the country.

The weather agency is closely monitoring the LPA outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) that may intensify into a tropical depression.

Tropical Depression

The low-pressure area will be named “Amang” if it enters PAR, which could be the first cyclone to hit the country this year.

PAGASA administrator Vicente Malano also advised the residents of CARAGA Region and Eastern Visayas to take precautionary measures for the upcoming weather disturbance.

“Sana po ay hindi tayo magkumpiyansa dahil ang sinasabi low-pressure area lang iyan. Hindi po puwedeng magkumpiyansa kasi pag low-pressure area ay puwede po magbigay ng malalakas na ulan,” Malano said.

Tropical Depression

Malano also said that the LPA has the same signature with Tropical Depression Usman leaving 100 people dead.

The weather disturbance was last spotted at 1,390 kilometers east of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur.
