Eye-Opening Piece About Jeepney Operators’ Plight Wrote By Concerned Netizen

A concerned netizen wrote an eye-opening piece about the jeepney operators’ plight, which is now making rounds after it was posted online.

The proposed elimination of the old public jeepney vehicles has been one of the most controversial topics in the country, which also raises the concern of both drivers and operators.

Several transport groups opposed the proposal of Duterte administration to phase out the public jeepney assuming that many jeepney drivers and operators would go hungry once the bill was implemented.

Recently, a Facebook user named Lian Nami Buan has posted an eye-opening piece about the plight of the jeepney operators.

Buan wrote the daily routine of the jeepney drivers revealing their hardships and difficulty just to earn a certain amount of cash for their daily expenses.

“It is 36 degrees today. Waiting for a jeepney to be full so we can go on our way is twice as tormenting. The sun seeps on your skin and you are bathed in sweat. I can only imagine what the driver feels, he’s been at it since God knows how early. After 10 minutes, he gives up waiting, he steps on the gas to ferry me – one passenger – to my destination. That’s 8 pesos for a 10-minute ride, not considering traffic.

His face scrunches, he takes his towel and wipes away sweat on his lined forehead. He shakes his head. It’s a (–foul word(s) removed–)ty trip on a (–foul word(s) removed–)ty day, for a (–foul word(s) removed–)ty amount. But he has a job to do.

This, Secretary Ben Diokno, is who you are referring to when you say no Filipino would go hungry if they just work hard.

This is a god damn hardworker.

And we will raise hell, and hell again, the next time you call him lazy. Because you don’t have a mother(–foul word(s) removed–) right.”
