Sarah Elago is the poorest among the members of the House of Representatives.
SARAH ELAGO – Representative Sarah Elago from the KABATAAN party list was declared to be on the bottom list among the house of multi-millionaires in the House based on her SALN.
According to a previous article, the Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net worth of the members of the House of Representatives as of December 31, 2016, has been released.
And here is the list of Top 5:
- Michael Romero – P7,009,588,018
- Emmeline Aglipay-Villar – P1,409,149,497
- Alfredo Abelardo Benitez – P942,964,471
- Imelda Marcos – P917,800,000
- Felicano Belmonte Jr. – P852,132,586
While on the bottom 3 were: Representative Arlene Brosas of the GABRIELA party list at P501,000, Representative Gabriel Bordado with net worth P179,017.71 and lastly, Representative Sarah Jane Elago from the KABATAAN party list with P50,000.
Clearly, the poorest in the House is Sarah Elago with a declared wealth of only P50,000.
She is just 27 years old and her wealth was just half of the salary of lawmakers earning more than P100,000 in a month.
According to a report, this shows that she is 140,000 times poorer than the richest congressman—ports tycoon Michael Romero of 1-Pacman party-list group with a staggering P7-billion declared wealth.
She shared, “I’m single and renting a place. I don’t own a house.”
Elago has a salary of P108,000 per month as a lawmaker under salary grade 31.
But accordingly, most of her salary goes to the activities of her group which included youth empowerment campaigns and free education advocacy work.
Elago further told, “Kabataan is not just a sectoral party-list, we’re also a national mass youth organization. [The] bulk of my income goes to support for various advocacy campaigns and use of such is collectively and democratically decided upon by our national executive council.”
