Flood Warnings In Following Areas Due To Heavy Rains Issued By PAGASA
The state weather bureau PAGASA has issued flood warnings in the following areas because of the heavy rains brought by the tail-end of a cold front.
On Monday (January 15, 2018), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) have warned of flooding in several areas in the country.
PAGASA has raised flood warnings over the eastern Visayas because of the heavy downpour.
The weather agency named numerous rivers in six provinces that might be affected by the heavy rains:
Leyte
- Sangputan
- Palo
- Solano
- Daguitan
- Marabon
- Cadacan
- Bongquirogon
- Salug
- Pagbanagaran
- Pagsangahan
- Binahaan
Southern Leyte
- Bisay
- Himbangan
- Pandan
Biliran Province
- All river systems
Northern Samar
- Catarman
- Bugko
- Pambujan
- Catubig
- Palapag
- Mano
- Gamay
Eastern Samar
- Oras
- Dolores
- Ulot
- Taft
- Borongan
- Suribao
- Llorento
- Balangiga
- Sulat
Samar
- Basey
- Silaga
- Calbiga
- Jibatan
Pagasa Tacloban station Chief Mario Peñaranda said that low-lying areas are prone to floods because to soils are saturated due to heavy rains.
About 2, 433 villages were identified by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) in Region 8 as highly flood-prone area.
DILG also urged the local government units to prepare and conduct disaster risk reduction measures in the possible affected areas.
Meanwhile, the cl(–foul word(s) removed–) in Leyte, Biliran, Eastern Samar, Samar and Northern Samar province have been suspended due to the bad weather.
