Buhay Party-List Rep. Lito Atienza slammed the clean-up drive headed by Manila Mayor Joseph “Erap” Estrada which was criticized by many and tagged as staged and “for publicity only.”
Last week, Mayor Estrada has invited the media including ABS-CBN to show their extensive clean-up for the Manila Bay.
The said body of water remained dirty and smelly because of the trash being thrown by the people despite the resolution passed on 2008, the writ of continuing mandamus, which gave orders to the government agencies to rehabilitate the area.
According to the report, instead of cleaning the Manila Bay, they have thrown back the trash into the water.
The report generated reactions from the public and among who commented on the said issue is Lito Atienza, who’s a former mayor of the capital.
“You cannot have photo opportunity [cleanup drive] tapos magtatapon ka ng basura,” he said. “Masamang example ito para sa publiko,” he added.
Lito Atienza noted that someone must be held liable for the incident.
Meanwhile, Lito Atienza is set to attend the second State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Rodrigo Duterte later this Monday, July 24, 2017.
The former Manila mayor expects Duterte to discuss the Marawi siege and the country’s drug war.
“The culture of death should be a concern to all of us. Sana linawin ng Pangulo kung ano ang plano niya laban sa droga,” he said.
“Killings and execution are not the solution. Ang kailangan ibang solution na pang mahabaan,” he added.
