CA Secret Voting On Gina Lopez’ Appointment To Be Investigated
Some senators were urging to conduct an investigation over the secret voting of CA on Gina Lopez’ appointment as DENR undersecretary.
The secret voting of Commission on Appointments (CA) has been questioned by some senators and wanted to conduct an investigation regarding the appointment of Gina Lopez as the undersecretary of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Senator JV Ejercito said that there should be transparency and better that CA members’ votes be known to everyone. While Senator Francis Pangilinan said that the regulation implemented by the CA regarding the secret voting should be investigated.
“It should be revisited. Besides, the Constitution heavily favors greater transparency and accountability in public office,” said by Pangilinan quoted by Abante-Tonite.
Majority Leader Vicente Sotto III supported Pangilinan’s statement that CA should consider the implementation. Sotto said that it is a result of the confusing results of the elections particularly on who’s in favor with Lopez.
Earlier, the results show that there are 8 votes in favor and 16 votes were against Lopez.8 senators and a congressman said that they have voted for Lopez, but the election results did not match to their statement.
Senator Sotto also agreed that there is someone standing up in the plenary, who’s in favor with Lopez including Sotto, Pangilinan, Ejercito, Sens. Loren Legarda, Manny Pacquiao, Ralph Recto, Franklin Drilon at Bam Aquino.
Congresswoman Sandy Ocampo said that she voted for Lopez and she was Lopez’ champion since the beginning. Isabela Rep. Rodolfo Albano III said that the secret voting was too confidential that she even forgot her vote.
