Mother & Child Sustained Injuries After Being Hit by Tricycle While Crossing Pedestrian Lane
A mother and her child were injured after being hit by a tricycle while crossing a pedestrian lane in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan.
The incident, which was caught on a security camera, has once again raised concerns about road safety and the importance of giving way to pedestrians.
The accident happened around noon on Tuesday along Alexander Street in Barangay Poblacion. The mother and child were using the pedestrian lane when the tricycle struck them while they were already close to reaching the middle of the road.
Based on information from barangay officials and footage from a nearby CCTV camera, the victims were clearly crossing at the designated area meant for pedestrians. However, the tricycle driver appeared to have failed to notice them in time.
Authorities noted that the driver was slightly bent forward while driving, which may have caused him to miss seeing the mother and child crossing the road. As a result, the tricycle hit both victims, causing them to suffer injuries.
Fortunately, the mother and child only sustained minor injuries. Reports said the driver promised to shoulder the medical expenses of the victims and assist them during their recovery.
The incident reminds motorists to stay alert and observe caution, especially when approaching pedestrian lanes. These areas are designed to help people cross roads safely and should always be respected by drivers.
Police Captain Hernando Martinez, an investigator from the Urdaneta City Police, reminded motorists to slow down and come to a complete stop when approaching pedestrian crossings.
He also emphasized that drivers should always allow pedestrians to cross safely before proceeding.
