Marian Rivera received negative comments for speaking English in this recent interview
Kapuso Primetime Queen Marian Rivera was defended by veteran actress Rita Avila against grammar nazis.
A “grammar nazi” is someone who regularly corrects or criticizes minor errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation in speech and writing.
Based on a Facebook post by Business World back in November 2025, the Philippines ranks 2nd among Southeast Asian countries, behind Singapore, with an E.P.I. (English Proficiency Index) of 60.14 (high proficiency).

The English language has become the first or second language of many Filipinos. This is something that can highlight a good trait of many people in the Philippines.
However, there is a downside to this, as some people can be critical when they read, hear, or encounter grammatical errors, just like what happened in a recent video featuring Marian Rivera.

The “Kabulastugan” FB Page shared a clip from a recent media conference in which Marian was one of the featured stars, as she is set to have her TV comeback through the series Behind Closed Doors.
During the interview, she made a statement that caught the attention of the online community. “First time ko ring gagawin kaya sabi ko, ‘Why not something, trying something new for me,’ and I think this is the good project for me,” Marian said.
In the comment section of the post, many netizens criticized Marian while some defended her. Rita Avila also reacted to this. Through her Facebook post, the veteran actress defended the younger actress.

“Even some Americans have wrong grammar. She is so blessed with beauty, talent, happy family, great career, endorsements, good health, etc., that a little mistake is magnified by the less blessed,” Rita wrote in the caption of her post.
