Man Jailed After Being Surrendered by His Own MotherĀ  for Stealing 12 Cellphones From Neighborhood

A man was arrested after stealing 12 cellphones from a small neighborhood after being surrendered by his own mother. 

On early Tuesday morning (April 14, 2026), a 24-year-old man was arrested after stealing 12 cellphones from a small neighborhood store in Sitio Maagay Uno, Barangay Inarawan, Antipolo, Rizal. 

The incident was caught on CCTV, showing how the suspect performed the theft and quickly fled the scene.

In the video, the man can be seen leaving the store with a plastic bag. It was later discovered that the bag already contained the stolen cellphones. The store he targeted was not just an ordinary sari-sari store, as it also offered cellphone rentals, mostly used by children for online classes and social media. 

The total value of the stolen items reached more than P60,000, causing heavy concern for the store owners. After discovering the theft, the victims immediately sought help from local barangay officials. 

The authorities were able to identify the suspect with the help of CCTV footage and community coordination.

Barangay officials revealed that the man already had a history of petty theft in the area. Reports showed that he had previously stolen items such as liquor, soft drinks, and other goods. 

When authorities went to his home, an unexpected turn of events happened. His own mother voluntarily surrendered him to help correct her son’s actions despite the pain it caused her. 

The mother also expressed hope that others who may have been involved would come forward and take responsibility. 

The suspect later admitted to the crime and revealed that he had already sold the stolen cellphones in Marikina for only P500. He explained that he was driven by financial hardship and expressed regret for his actions. 

As of this writing, he is now detained at the Antipolo Police Community Precinct 2 and is facing theft charges.
