Fare Increase for Public Transport Set on March 19, 2026 (Thursday), LTFRB Says
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has approved a fare increase for some public transportation vehicles.
The LTFRB approved the fare hike for several public utility vehicles, except for regular taxis and motorcycle taxis starting Thursday, March 19, 2026. The decision covers many common modes of transportation used by daily commuters across the country.
Giovanni Lopez of the Department of Transportation confirmed that a permanent fare increase of P1 for traditional jeepneys and P2 for modern jeepneys has been approved.

According to Giovanni Lopez of the Department of Transportation, the increase includes an additional P1 for traditional jeepneys and P2 for modern jeepneys. The adjustment also applies to metro, city, and provincial buses, airport taxis, transport network vehicles, and point-to-point buses.
The announcement comes as fuel prices and the cost of vehicle parts continue to rise. Operators have been struggling to keep up with daily expenses, especially with the steady increase in diesel prices.

The fare hike is seen as a way to help them continue operating while still serving passengers. Under the new rates, traditional jeepneys will have an added P1 for the first four kilometers, with an additional charge per succeeding distance.
Modern jeepneys will have a P2 increase for the same starting distance. Bus fares will also go up, with different rates depending on whether the vehicle is air-conditioned or not. Provincial buses will follow updated per-kilometer charges based on their service type.

Airport taxi fares will increase by P40, while ride-hailing services will add P20 to their rates depending on the vehicle type. Point-to-point buses will also implement a 15 percent increase based on their current fares.

However, fare adjustments for UV Express, motorcycle taxis, and regular taxis are still under review. These sectors have already submitted their own requests, which are now being evaluated.
