Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Possibility of Filing Another Impeachment Rap Against Her
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President claimed that her lawyers are ready for the possible filing of another impeachment case against her.
Previously, rumors that two (2) impeachment complaints may be filed in the House of Representatives this February crossed the surface after some groups confirmed their plans of filing raps against Pres. Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice Pres. Duterte. The ban on the filing of an impeachment case against the Vice President will expire on February 6.
Senate Pres. Tito Sotto previously said that impeachment complaints against both Marcos Jr. and Duterte is supposedly embarrassing. Despite it, he assured that the Senate will act on any complaint transmitted by the House of Representatives.
In the case of the Vice President, impeachment complaints have been filed against her before but the one that reached the Senate was archived. The chamber archived the impeachment rap after the Supreme Court ruled it as unconditional.
The ruling of the Supreme Court is based on the ground that impeachment complaints were filed against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte prior to the one that reached the Senate. According to the high court, it allegedly violated the one-year ban rule and a fresh impeachment complaint may only be filed after February 6, 2026.
Following the decision of the Supreme Court, 19 senators voted in favor of the motion to to archive the impeachment complaint against Duterte. Four (4) senators did not support the motion and then-Minority Senator Ping Lacson abstained from voting.

Recently, after some groups confirmed their intent to file another impeachment complaint against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, the Vice President was asked about her legal team. Based on a report on PhilStar, she confirmed that her lawyers are preparing for the possibility that another impeachment rap may be filed against her.
“Yes, ‘yung mga lawyers they’ve been preparing, they were hired as early as fourth quarter of 2023 the moment that one of the members of the House of Representatives announced that they will file an impeachment case against me,” the Vice President said.
Based on the report, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte also shared that she has met with her lawyers before the Christmas break last year. According to her, they have talked about the preparation for the possible filing of another impeachment case against her. She also expressed that their preparation is not only for this year but until the end of her term.
“Hindi lang ngayong taon na ito dahil sigurado ka man [kapag] hindi sila nakapag-file ngayong taon, susunod na taon at hanggang matapos ang aking termino ay ganun ang gagawin nila,” Duterte said.
Recently, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto claimed that he will support the call for ChaCha after the Supreme Court ruling on the impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in 2025.
