Former Security Guard Arrested After Vape Shop Robbery in Marikina
A 23-year-old former security guard was arrested after robbing a vape shop along Old J.P. Rizal Street in Barangay Kalumpang, Marikina City.
On early Sunday morning (January 4, 2025), the incident happened around 5:00 a.m. and was captured on the shop’s CCTV cameras. The video showed the suspect entering the store with an accomplice, pretending to inquire about products.
After a few moments, one of them suddenly pulled out a gun and announced the robbery. The sudden threat left the sales attendant with little time to react as the suspects began taking valuables from the shop.
During the incident, one suspect attempted to take the attendant’s tablet and mobile phone but was stopped by his companion.
One of the suspects apologized to the victim and even tried to shake hands before leaving the store. Despite this, the situation remained dangerous and frightening for the lone employee.
Before escaping, the suspects wrapped up an HDMI cable around the sales attendant to prevent immediate calls for help.
Still, the attendant managed to stay calm and quickly contacted a nearby police substation after freeing himself. Authorities responded promptly, leading to a swift follow-up operation.
The suspects managed to take P5,000 in cash, a speaker worth about P4,000, and two vape units. Later that day, police tracked down and arrested one of the suspects in Cubao, Quezon City. All stolen items were recovered during the operation.
The arrested suspect is now being held at the Marikina Police Custodial Facility and chose not to give a statement. Authorities have already identified the second suspect, who was seen carrying a firearm in the CCTV footage, and are continuing efforts to locate and arrest him.
