Fake NBI Agent Arrested After Extorting P10M From Chinese Businessman to Buy Ford Raptor
A fake NBI agent was arrested after allegedly scamming a Chinese businessman out of P10 million and use it to buy a Ford Raptor.
A man pretending to be an agent of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was arrested after allegedly scamming a Chinese businessman out of P10 million.
The suspect, identified as Crisanto Valdez, used the money to purchase a brand-new Ford Ranger Raptor just a day before his arrest in Tondo, Manila.

The scam began when a Chinese businessman sought help to secure the release of 20 Chinese nationals who had been detained by the NBI in a raid on a bar in Parañaque City. The businessman reached out to a Bureau of Immigration (BI) employee, who then introduced him to a BI intelligence agent.
This agent later involved Valdez, who falsely claimed to be an NBI intelligence officer and assured the businessman that he could facilitate the release for a price.
On February 20, 2025, the businessman handed over P10 million to Valdez at a seafood restaurant in Pasay City.
However, after waiting for hours without any updates, the businessman became suspicious and reported the incident to the Pasay City police the following day. With the help of witnesses, authorities tracked down Valdez to Tondo, where they arrested him on February 23.
During the operation, police recovered P1 million in cash from Valdez, believed to be part of the scammed money. Further investigation revealed that he had purchased a red Ford Ranger Raptor on February 22 using the funds he had acquired fraudulently. The vehicle was impounded as evidence.

Valdez is now facing charges of swindling (estafa) and usurpation of authority under the Revised Penal Code. Meanwhile, the two BI personnel involved in the case are cooperating with the authorities as witnesses.
