Austrian Government Orders Demolition Of Adolf Hitler’s House

Adolf Hitler’s birth house will be replaced with a building that is not associated with the Nazi leader.

VIENNA, Austria – The government of Austria orders to tear down the house of the late dictator, German Nazi Chancellor Adolf Hitler located in the western town of Braunau.

The Austrian government announced on Monday, October 17, that the destruction of the house where Hitler was born will give rise to another building that has no association with the Nazi dictator.

The Austrian government moves to eliminate the property’s pull as a place of pilgrimage for neo-Nazis.

But the plan still has to be formalized by way of a legislation and voted on in the Parliament. But initially, the Interior Ministry said the demolition was recommended by a government-appointed commission.

Most opposition parties expected to support the plan, with the Social Democratic and centrist People’s Party in the majority, and passage was likely no more than a mere formality.

According to Interior Minister Wolfgang Sobotka, “a thorough architectural remodeling is necessary to permanently prevent the recognition and the symbolism of the building”.
