Mayor Benjamin Magalong Inspects Baguio City Eateries for Allegedly Serving Dog Meat

Dog Meat Allegedly Served in Baguio City Eateries to be Inspected

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong has ordered an inspection of several local eateries for allegedly serving dog meat.

Magalong has released an order to inspect some local eateries in the area following reports that they may be serving dog meat dishes to customers.

This directive came after authorities filed a case against a man caught butchering a dog in Brgy. Irisan on May 30, which is a violation of the Animal Welfare Act of 1998.

“We will not tolerate animal cruelty in Baguio City; the police will search and arrest violators of the Animal Welfare Act,” said Mayor Magalong.

Benjamin emphasized the city’s commitment to upholding animal welfare laws and ensuring that such practices are stopped.

Mayor Magalong noted that the trade of dog meat in Baguio City has dropped in recent times. However, the recent incident in Brgy. Irisan has prompted a renewed focus on enforcing the Animal Welfare Act and ensuring compliance among local businesses.

Local authorities will conduct thorough inspections of eateries suspected of serving dog meat. These inspections aim to identify and penalize any establishments involved in this illegal practice, thereby protecting animal rights and ensuring the health and safety of customers.

The city government is also raising public awareness about the Animal Welfare Act and the importance of reporting any suspected violations. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and report any activities that involve cruelty to animals or the illegal trade of dog meat.
