Woman in Palawan Gets a Surprise as She Find Egg Inside Another Egg
A woman in Palawan, Rai Ahmad from Bataraza, shared her extraordinary experience when she found an egg inside another egg.
In the culinary world, we often hear about eggs with double yolks but have you ever come across an egg within another egg? A woman from Bataraza, Palawan shared her extraordinary experience on social media.
Rai’s unexpected encounter with this unusual encounter occurred when she was about to prepare a simple scrambled egg. As she cracked the egg open, she found another small egg inside the regular-sized eggshell.
She described the experience, saying, “Pagkabiyak ko po ng itlog may kasama palang maliit na itlog,” she said. “Itlog din po talaga siya kumbaga buo. May shell din. Pero maliit lang.”
According to experts, it happens when a second oocyte, or egg cell, is released by the hen’s ovary before it can lay the first egg. In another term, the first egg reverses its path and eventually covers the smaller egg within it.
Dr. Aris Miclat, a veterinarian, explained that such events often occur when chickens are under stress or get startled while laying their eggs. Furthermore, he noted that an egg within an egg could potentially serve as an indication of impending diseases in the hen.
“‘Yung naunang egg ay bumalik and then eventually na-engulf siya nitong pangalawang egg,” Miclat said.
Miclat also clarified an egg within an egg is sterile and cannot hatch, indicating that it cannot progress into a normal egg or into a normal chick because this is an abnormal ovulation.
Approximately one in a thousand eggs contains two yolks, and they are often associated with luck. These eggs are usually laid by young hens with developing reproductive systems or older hens approaching the end of their egg-producing age.
