Jed Madela expressed gratitude to Regine Velasquez
Kapamilya singer Jed Madela revealed something about the song Narito Ako popularized by Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez.
Regine is indeed one of the icons of the Philippine music industry. Over the years, she has released songs that became part of the lives of many Filipinos. She has also become an inspiration to newbie artists who also aim for the success that she has as a singer.
Just recently, Regine received the Ryan Cayabyab Award for her contribution to the OPM scene. She went emotional about the tribute to her.
One of the singers who joined the tribute was Jed Madela. Based on the article in PEP, the Kapamilya singer admitted getting nervous before singing. He shared that usually after his name is called, he would sing immediately. However, for the tribute to Regine, it was different.
Jed also expressed gratitude to Regine. He said that the Songbird opened the doors for other singers like him. “Hindi mo lang alam kung gaano ka ka-influential sa aming lahat,” he said.
Then, the Kapamilya singer shared that when he was young, he would save money to buy Regine’s album and aspire to sing like her.
“I remember collecting my baon when I was in high school. Kasi gusto kong bumili ng cassette ni Ate Reg. Yung unang-unang cassette na nabili ko, na pinaghirapan ko, ay ang kanyang 1990 album. Yung may ‘Narito Ako.’ Kasi, yun ang pinaka-goal ko — kailangang maabot ko yung kantang yon,” the singer said.
However, Jed Madela said that it was the time when his voice changed due to puberty. For a while, he was not able to reach Regine’s voice range but it is known to many that he has a high voice for a male singer.
“Pero seryoso po, Ate Reg, you have inspired me so much to the point na minsan, naririnig ko na yung boses mo sa boses ko. At hinihingi na ng mga audience na sampolin ko yung boses mo lagi. Naging part na ng mga concerts ko,” the singer from Iloilo said.
He also shared that it has been a wonderful experience admiring the Songbird, listening to her songs, and watching her concerts.
