Mariel Padilla explained what she meant in her 2022 vlog
Celebrity vlogger Mariel Padilla clarified her remark on her husband Senator Robin Padilla in a 2022 vlog that recently resurfaced.
Mariel has been very supportive of her husband’s political career. In past statements, the former Pinoy Big Brother host even shared that her business ventures were a big help for Sen. Robin’s campaign.
Mariel has also always been ready to defend her husband against his critics. In the original video clip, Mariel defended her husband’s capability to serve as a senator.

In a vlog she released in 2022, Mariel Padilla said that her husband was actually a college graduate. Then, she added, “Next, si Robin, nung nasa Bilibid nakapagpasa na ng batas. Without even being a senator.”
With the recent criticism that Sen. Robin Padilla has been receiving, netizens recalled this past statement that the celebrity vlogger had. Because of this, Mariel was also bashed.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, August 9, 2026, Mariel made a clarification about her 2022 statement that went viral. “Common sense is most uncommon,” she began.
She stressed that she knows that one could not pass a law if he or she is not a legislator. Mariel pointed out that her 2022 vlog was to answer Sen. Robin’s critics, questioning his credibility to be a lawmaker, so she corrected the point that the bashers tried to make.

“When Robin was in Bilibid, his case became closely associated with the issue that RA 8294 addressed—illegal possession of firearms. RA 8294 was enacted in 1997 while he was incarcerated. Now, IF gamitin natin ang talino na binigay sa atin ng Maykapal… sino kaya ang nag-draft at nagpasa ng bill na naging RA 8294? Obviously, legislators,” she pointed out.
Mariel Padilla reiterated her point that, back then, her husband was not yet a Senator and that she never meant that he literally sat in Congress.
“His experience was being cited to show that even before becoming a senator, he had firsthand experience of how laws—and changes in laws—can directly affect a person’s life. Context matters. Comprehension matters too,” the celebrity vlogger said.
