The impeachment trial is on its 11th day now. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte has not attended any of the previous trial days. Duterte was on an overseas trip as well starting July 16. Vice Pres. Sara Duterte skipped the 5th State of the Nation Address or SONA of Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Aside from the Vice President, several minority senators also ditched the national address of the Chief Executive which was held last July 27.

One of the senators who skipped the 5th SONA of Pres. Bongbong Marcos was presidential sister and Sen. Imee Marcos. She aligned herself with the Duterte family following the arrest and the transfer of the custody of former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court in 2025.

According to the Senator, she could not accept what was done to former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte. She even led the investigation in the arrest and the transfer of custody of the former President — an unexpected turn of event that brought her own brother, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, into the center of criticisms.

Sen. Imee Marcos immediately left the senatorial slate of Pres. Bongbong Marcos in 2025. In the later part of the campaign period, she was endorsed by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte in several campaign rallies and was even adopted by the political party of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte.

Sen. Marcos has also accused her brother and the First Lady of allegedly using illegal drugs in a rally held by the members of Iglesia ni Cristo in 2025. In another INC rally in 2026, the Senator called the current government “bangag”.
