Angel Locsin Confronts Robin Padilla Over Communist Remark & Red Tag Silence
ANGEL LOCSIN – After months away from social media, Angel Locsin sparked online discussions by confronting Robin Padilla over his “communist” statement and bringing up her experience with red tag allegations.
Actress Angel Locsin returned to social media after a long hiatus to address Senator Robin Padilla over his recent remarks during the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte. Her message quickly gained attention online as she openly questioned the senator’s political positions and recalled their past conversations.
Angel reacted to a Manila Bulletin report about Padilla referring to himself as a “communist” while questioning lawyer Jeremy Lotoc during the impeachment proceedings on Tuesday, July 14. During the hearing, the senator asked Lotoc whether he had “basic knowledge” of Islam after discussions touched on the alleged “Operation Romonov.”
Operation Romonov was discussed in relation to an alleged plot or threat against Vice President Sara Duterte’s family by the current administration. The issue was cited as one of the reasons behind the vice president’s previously disclosed “grave threat” involving President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., First Lady Liza Marcos, and Leyte 1st District Representative and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
In her lengthy post, Angel reflected on stories Padilla had allegedly shared with her in the past about joining the armed struggle in the mountains during his younger years because of his beliefs.
“Nung mga panahong magkasama tayo, madalas mong ikwento yung panahon na namundok ka at nag-armas para ipaglaban ang bayan. Sabi mo pa nga, dinadalaw ka ng ex mo sa bundok,” said Angel.
She added that the senator’s recent statement reminded her of the Robin Padilla she once admired.
“Sa statement mo na to, kahit papaano, natuwa akong makita ulit yung dating Robin Padilla na nakilala ko. At least, honest ka ngayon, Kuya.”
However, Angel directly confronted Padilla about his silence during the time she claimed she was being red-tagged despite allegedly knowing the accusations against her were false.
“Ang tanong ko lang, nasaan ka nung panahong nirered-tag ako kahit alam mong hindi totoo? Actually, kasama mo pa nga at kachikahan yung mga nangre-red-tag,” the actress said.
She also expressed disappointment over what she believes has been the senator’s priorities. Angel pointed out that many Filipinos, particularly members of the Muslim community, had supported Padilla because they expected him to be a strong advocate for their interests.
“Isa sa mga pinakamalaking dahilan kung bakit ka binoto ng maraming Pilipino ay dahil inasahan nilang magiging matapang kang boses para sa mga kapatid nating Muslim. Pero bakit parang mas ipinaglalaban mo pa si Quiboloy? Naniniwala ka ba talaga na siya ang ‘appointed son of God’?” she said.
The actress likewise raised concerns about Padilla’s views on the West Philippine Sea and the Philippines’ relationship with China. According to Angel, those positions no longer reflect the patriotic image she once associated with the senator.
“Isa ka sa pinaka-makabayang taong nakilala. Ikaw si Andres Bonifacio. Kaya nakakalungkot pag nakakabasa ako ng stand mo pagdating sa China. Hindi ito ang Robin Padilla na nakilala at hinangaan ko.”
“Kahit paano, alam kong halos pareho tayong landas na dinaanan. Galing sa hirap, nagtrababo ng maaga, tinangkilik at nakapagpasaya ng mga tao. Ang utang na loob natin ay sa ating diyos at sa lahat ng Pilipino —hindi lamang sa isang tao,” she said.
Angel concluded her message by urging the senator to reconsider his current positions.
“Tama na, Kuya. Gising na. Hindi pa huli ang lahat,” said Angel.
As of this writing, Senator Robin Padilla has yet to issue a public response to Angel Locsin’s viral statement. The two previously worked together in projects such as Asian Treasures on GMA Network and also served as judges on Pilipinas Got Talent alongside Freddie M. Garcia and Vice Ganda.
