PAGASA Releases Latest Weather Update for Saturday (June 20, 2026)
The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Tropical Storm Mekkhala is expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) this weekend.
On Saturday (June 20, 2026), the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) released the latest update on Tropical Storm Mekkhala.
As of 10 a.m. on June 20, 2026, the storm was located about 1,590 kilometers east of southeastern Luzon. It is currently moving westward at around 20 kilometers per hour and continues to strengthen as it approaches Philippine waters.

Mekkhala is carrying maximum sustained winds of about 85 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 105 kilometers per hour. Weather experts say it may continue to intensify in the coming days and could reach typhoon strength while over the Philippine Sea.
Once it enters the country’s monitoring zone, it will be given the local name FranciscoPH. According to the forecast, the storm is expected to enter PAR on Saturday night or early Sunday morning (June 21).
However, it is not expected to make landfall. Instead, it may curve or recurve near the Batanes and Babuyan Islands area starting Tuesday, which could still bring changes in local weather conditions in Northern Luzon.

Even without landfall, the storm can still affect weather patterns across the country. PAGASA said its outer bands or trough may bring scattered rains over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao this weekend. Residents in these areas are advised to stay alert for sudden rain showers and possible thunderstorms.
The system may also help trigger the return of the southwest monsoon starting Sunday. This could lead to more rainfall in the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas in the coming days.
PAGASA reminded the public to stay updated with official weather bulletins, especially those in Northern Luzon, where wind signals may be raised if the storm strengthens further or changes its path.
