DILG Chief Remulla Fires Back at Favoritism Claims in Discaya Case
DISCAYA – Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla has firmly denied claims of special treatment in the Discaya case.
Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Jonvic Remulla has denied claims that contractor Curlee Discaya received special treatment following his arrest, stressing that authorities are handling the case in accordance with standard procedures.
During a media briefing on Monday, June 8, 2026, Remulla dismissed reports suggesting that the Discaya family was receiving favorable treatment due to their alleged connections with influential political figures.

“Mayroon kasing mga reports na dahil marami silang mga ka-deal na bigtime congressman, bigtime senators na poprotektahan sila,” said Remulla.
The DILG chief emphasized that Discaya and the other accused individuals would be treated like any other detainees facing legal proceedings.
“They are here at ilalagay sila sa regular na selda, katulad sa mga senador na regular na selda rin,” he added.
Remulla also clarified that the court ultimately has the authority to determine where Discaya will be detained while his case is being processed.
“Depende ‘yan sa judge kung saan ilalagay,” he added.
The secretary further revealed that authorities are continuing their investigation into the alleged flood control scam and expressed confidence that more suspects will be arrested in the coming months.
“Itong flood control mess ay moving forward makikita n’yo at sa mga darating pang panahon ay mas marami pa kaming mahuhuli,” he said.

In a separate statement, Remulla provided an update on the status of those charged in connection with the case.
“As of now, ang 9 are already in custody. Si Pacifico Discaya was picked up at 7 ng umaga, sinundo siya sa Senate, pagkatapos dinala siya dito para sa inquest. Para maklaro lang, sa 11 na charge, 9 na ang nakakulong, yung dalawa po at large.”
Before Curlee Discaya’s arrest, his wife, Sarah Discaya, had already been arrested and detained. She is currently under the custody of the Lapu-Lapu City Jail in Cebu.
Curlee Discaya, meanwhile, had spent nine months under Senate custody after being cited in contempt in September 2025 during the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee’s series of hearings. His recent arrest marks another significant development in the government’s ongoing investigation into the alleged flood control scam, which authorities say remains far from over.
