Janus Del Prado Sparks Debate After Fiery Remarks Against University of the Philippines Students
JANUS DEL PRADO – Actor Janus Del Prado has stirred heated discussions online after openly criticizing several scholars from the University of the Philippines.
Actor Janus Del Prado sparked online discussion after criticizing several students from the University of the Philippines, accusing them of arrogance, constant complaints, and involvement in destabilizing activities.
The remarks came following a reported encounter in Toboso, Negros Occidental, which resulted in the deaths of 19 individuals, including Alyssa Alano, a student from the said university. The incident has since drawn attention and reactions from different sectors, including public figures like Del Prado.

In a Facebook post on Sunday, April 26, the actor reminded UP students about the source of their educational funding. “Wag kayo masyado mayabang. Kasi pera ng taumbayan ang nagpapaaral at nagpaaral sa inyo. Through full scholarship man, free tuition law or discounted. Pera pa rin ng mga taxpayers yan,” Janus said.
He emphasized that students benefiting from public education should show gratitude, especially toward the working class, who contribute through taxes. “Konting utang na loob naman sa taumbayan lalo na sa mga working class. Kaltas pa rin sa sweldo nila ‘yan,” he added.
Del Prado also shared his personal experience, saying he felt the arrogance of some scholars through comments directed at him online. According to the actor, some individuals called him “bobo” and “bitter” for allegedly failing to pass the University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT).
“Yes, unfortunately I didn’t even have the chance to take the UPCAT because i’ve been working since I was 5 years old,” said Janus.

Despite the criticism, Del Prado clarified his stance by encouraging scholars to contribute positively to society. Instead of focusing on complaints against the government, he urged them to use their education to make meaningful contributions.
His statements have since generated mixed reactions online, with some supporting his call for accountability and others defending the students’ right to express dissent.
