2 Men Shot by Security Guard in Cebu City Over Alleged Bullying
A security guard shot two men who were allegedly bullying him in Cebu City as he reached his breaking point.
On Friday morning (March 27, 2026), tragic shooting incident in Barangay Calamba, Cebu City has left one man dead and one injured.
One of the victims was identified as Vicente Gemuta, 42, who was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center after suffering multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. Another victim, Renato Belanizo, 52, was seriously injured and rushed to the hospital for treatment but later also died from his injuries.

The suspect, Joel Rentuma, 47, a security guard working at A Plus Towing Services, was quickly arrested after the shooting. According to police records, he had a previous case of homicide in 2011 and was released from prison in 2021.
Initial reports from the Cebu City Police suggested that the suspect may have been pushed by repeated bullying from the victims. Investigators are looking into claims that he had been dealing with ongoing teasing and harassment, which may have led to the violent act.
However, during questioning, the suspect said there was no confrontation right before the shooting. He shared that he had been quietly enduring the alleged bullying for a long time until he lost control and decided to use his firearm.

Despite this, the wife of one of the victims denied the accusations. She said her husband was not a bully and described him as a friendly person who got along well with others.
The incident also raised concern about how people reacted to the scene. Instead of immediately helping, some bystanders reportedly took videos and shared them online. The victim’s family found this upsetting and called for more respect and compassion.
Authorities are continuing their investigation as the suspect remains in custody and prepares to face charges.
