Woman Arrested After Newborn Left in Trash in Taguig

TAGUIG – A heartbreaking incident in Taguig City has left many in shock after a newborn baby was discovered abandoned in a trash bin.

A woman was arrested after allegedly abandoning her newborn baby in a trash bin in Barangay Ligid Tipas, Taguig City, on Friday afternoon, according to authorities.

Based on a report from the Taguig City Police, the baby boy was placed inside an eco bag and thrown into a garbage container. Fortunately, the infant was discovered and rescued by a homeless individual who was scavenging for recyclable materials in the area.

CCTV footage captured the moment the scavenger was searching through trash. Moments later, he was seen pulling out an eco bag from one of the garbage drums before hurriedly leaving the scene. It was later revealed that he brought the baby to the barangay for immediate assistance.

“Nakita niya ayon sa pag-iimbestiga ng ating pulis, na iniwan daw itong bata sa loob ng eco bag. Dali dali, dahil sa mga ganung kalagayan, kinuha niya yung bata at dinala sa ating super health center. Doon na po tumawag ng police,” said Police Captain Ibralen Jain, Section Chief of the Taguig City Police Women and Children Protection Section.

According to the Taguig City Social Welfare and Development Office, the newborn is now in stable condition and under close monitoring at a hospital.

“Ang baby po ay healthy, at close monitoring po ng mga hospital staff. Ngayon po si baby boy ay magiging under custody ng city social welfare department,” said Julie Gosim of Taguig CSWD.

Authorities immediately launched a follow-up operation to identify the person responsible for the incident. Through backtracking and investigation, police were able to locate and arrest the child’s mother.

“Masigasig itong ating sub station commander na malaman kung sino ang gumawa nito at napag-alaman sa ating backtracking natunton ang nanay,” Jain added.

The mother admitted to the crime, explaining that she no longer has a husband and believed she could not support the child on her own.

She is currently detained at the Taguig City Police Station and is set to face charges of child abuse.
