Leandro Leviste Clarifies Remarks, Denies Causing Claire Castro Distress

Leandro Leviste denies this.

Batangas 1st District Rep. Leandro Leviste denied admitting to causing “sleepless nights and anxiety” to Palace press officer Claire Castro.

Last January,  Batangas Rep. Leandro Leviste filed a libel complaint against Communications Undersecretary Claire Castro. Leviste’s complaint came after Castro made remarks regarding a solar energy company he founded. It was filed at the Balayan, Batangas Regional Trial Court.

“Hindi ko naman po nais na masaktan si Usec. Claire Castro ngunit kailangan ko lang pong depensahan ang aking pangalan, dahil naka ilang vlog na po siya tungkol sa akin,” Leviste said.

In a previous article, Castro demanded PHP 500 million from Leviste for causing her “sleepless nights and anxiety” due to the cyber libel complaint against her and for ruining her integrity.

“Okay, P500 million damages, it is part of my compulsory counterclaim, as I believe that because of twisting some facts in the complaint, it ruined my integrity as Palace Press Officer. I believed that I deserved and I am entitled to such damages,” said Castro at a press briefing.

She even added that it would be better if he admitted to causing her distress, as it would be a part of her case.

Leviste reacted to this and made some clarifications. According to him, his earlier remarks were misinterpreted. According to him, he never admitted to being responsible for Castro’s alleged distress, and added that his response was taken out of context and insisted that he did not admit fault.

He is willing to help shoulder Castro’s medical expenses as a gesture of goodwill, but this does not mean an admission of liability.

“The ‘sleepless nights and anxiety’ in quotation marks in my post is not me admitting that I caused this, as I wrote in my post, it was alleged by her that I caused this,” Leviste told reporters.
