Is the lifetime free fuel for Hidilyn Diaz not true?
HIDILYN DIAZ FREE FUEL – Is the promised lifetime free fuel for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics gold medalist not true after all?
Hidilyn Diaz bagged a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, ruling in the women’s 55 kg weight class in weightlifting. She brought immense pride to the country, as her victory ended the years of gold medal drought in the country.

Some of the incentives she received, pledged by companies, were:
- ₱10 million from government through Republic Act 10699 or the National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act
- ₱10 million pledged by San Miguel Corporation President and CEO Ramon Ang
- ₱10 million pledged by business tycoon Manny Pangilinan through the MVP Sports Foundation
- ₱3 million pledged by Deputy Speaker Mikee Romero of 1-PACMAN Party-list
- ₱2.5 million from the local government of Zamboanga City, Diaz’s hometown
- ₱5 million cash and free fuel for life from Siklab Atleta Sports Foundation head and Phoenix Petroleum chair Dennis Uy
- ₱4-million house and lot at any PHirst Park Homes community of her choice from Century Properties
- ₱14-million residential condominium unit in Eastwood, Quezon City from Megaworld
- House and lot in Tagaytay from Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino
- Lifetime free flights from AirAsia
- 80,000 free miles per year for life from Philippine Airlines
At the present time, with the rising of fuel prices in the country as a result of the conflict in the Middle East, people remembered the pledged free fuel for life from Siklab Atleta Sports Foundation head and Phoenix Petroleum chair Dennis Uy for her.
However, according to Diaz’s manager, Noel Ferrer, the fuel incentive never actually came to fruition. Ferrer explained that the supposed lifetime supply of fuel was only a proposal that never materialized. As a result, Diaz has not actually received the benefit despite the public perception that she did.
It appears that in reality, the celebrated athlete is still affected by the same fuel price hikes that many Filipinos are currently experiencing.
