Quezon City 4th District Representative Bong Suntay attends the hearing.
Following his controversial remarks about Anne Curtis, lawmaker Bong Suntay appeared before the House Committee on Ethics and Privileges.
Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay’s inappropriate remarks about ABS-CBN actress Anne Curtis did not sit well with many people. He apologized to those who were offended, but his statement drew further criticism as many perceived it as a non-apology. The lawmaker continued to stand by his analogy and maintained that he believed there was nothing wrong with his remarks.

“Lastly, alam niyo minsan, nasa Shangri-La ako, nakita ko si Anne Curtis, ang ganda-ganda pala niya. You know, may desire sa loob ko na, nag-init talaga, na-imagine ko na lang kung ano’ng pwedeng mangyari. Pero syempre hanggang imagination na lang ‘yon. Pero ‘di naman siguro ako pwedeng kasuhan kung ano ang na-imagine ko eh,” Suntay’s controversial remark said.
In a previous article, Suntay believed he deserved the backlash online due to his controversial remarks. Eventually, Curtis reacted to the matter and refused to accept his non-apology.
Given the seriousness of the issue, the House of Representatives has agreed to investigate the lawmaker’s statement. Lawmakers approved a motion directing Suntay to appear before the committee so it could review his statements and determine whether they violated the standards expected of members of the House of Representatives of the Philippines.
Suntay appeared before the hearing as ordered and was given 10 days to answer the verified complaint. 4Ps party-list Rep. JC Abalos said the committee has 60 session days to resolve the matter and is expected to come up with its recommendation soon.
“Of course, he would be given time to answer the verified complaint that was filed against him. So it would go through the rules and procedures of the ethics committee, and I would like to assure everyone that a report will be issued in time,” Abalos said.
