Jasmine Curtis Smith Highlights Importance Of Teaching Young Boys To Respect Women

Here’s what Jasmine Curtis Smith says about teaching respect.

Actress-model Jasmine Curtis Smith highlights the importance of teaching boys about respecting women at a young age.

Amid the buzz about the issue between ABS-CBN actress Anne Curtis and Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay’s inappropriate remarks about her, one of those who rallied hard behind the actress was his sister Jasmine Curtis Smith.

In a previous article, Anne broke her silence about the issue, indicating her refusal to accept the non-apology apology of the lawmaker. It’s the same way the lawmaker refuses to believe that there was something wrong in his remarks, made in a way that was disrespectful and objectifying.

“You’ve become the poster boy of something much bigger: a culture that still think it’s acceptable to talk about women this way. Worse, one that tolerates it from out leaders. As they say, misogyny dressed up as a joke is still misogyny. You hold a seat paid for by taxpayers. Women are taxpayers. I am a taxpayer. We are not props in your commentary,” said the actress in her statement.

Amid all the buzz, Jasmine highlighted the importance of teaching boys to respect women at a young age. In Saleema Refran’s report on “24 Oras,” she refrained from making more comments about the issue but highlighted the core of it: raising boys to become men who respect, value, and support women, helping build a more respectful and equal society.

“Sana po turuan natin ang mga batang lalake, mula bata pa lang turuan natin sila kung ano ang importansya sa pagrerespeto, sa pagbibigay-pugay, sa pag-a-appreciate, at hindi lang ‘yun, pagsusuporta sa mga kababaihan,” she said.

The actress stressed that respect for women should start in childhood, not only when they grow up.
