The House of Representatives OKs an investigation into the issue of Bong Suntay, involving Anne Curtis.
BONG SUNTAY ISSUE – The House of Representatives has agreed to conduct an investigation into the statement made by the lawmaker.
Quezon City 4th district Rep. Jesus “Bong” Suntay made inappropriate remarks about actress Anne Curtis. He was blasted online and was hit by people across several social media platforms. He has apologized to all those who got “hurt” by his lewd remark and also apologized to the actress.
In a previous article, Suntay believed he deserved the backlash online due to his controversial remarks.
With the continuous backlash, the House of Representatives authorized an investigation into the remarks of the Deputy Minority Leader. They allowed the ethics committee to conduct a thorough assessment of Suntay’s remarks about his desires and fantasies when he saw Curtis.
Laguna 1st District Representative Ann Matibag, chair of the House committee on women and gender equality, spoke on the plenary floor and called for the matter to be referred to the ethics committee. According to her, women are not jokes and not a fantasy. They have dignity that must not be subjected to humor within the Congress.
“When a member of Congress speaks in a way that objectifies women, the harm extends far beyond that moment. This has real-life consequences for women who experience various forms of harassment, discrimination, and abuse every day,” Gabriela Representative Sarah Elago added.
In a previous article, Suntay’s wife apologized to the actress and asked the public not to drag her and her children. She pleaded for respect for their boundaries.
Suntay said in a statement, “No mother should have to watch her children be targeted and harassed for something they had no part in. I humbly ask the public and the media to respect that boundary. Thank you.”
