Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos Issues Statement over Impeachment Complaint against Dad Bongbong
SANDRO MARCOS – The House Majority Leader stepped back from participating in the processes of the House of Representatives of the impeachment complaint against President Bongbong Marcos.
An impeachment complaint was filed against Marcos Jr. before the Office of the Secretary General of the House of Representatives. The Chief Executive is accused of alleged betrayal of public trust and several grounds were cited by the complainant, lawyer Andre de Jesus.

The first impeachment complaint filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos was endorsed by Deputy Minority Leader at Pusong Pinoy Party-list Rep. Jett Nisay. Here are the grounds cited by the complainant as alleged betrayal of public trust supposedly committed by Marcos Jr.:
- Respondent ordered and enabled the kidnapping and surrender of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to the International Criminal Court (ICC).
- Respondent is unfit to serve as President due to drug addiction.
- Respondent committed betrayal of public trust when he failed to veto unprogrammed appropriations (UA) and other unconstitutional provisions in the General Appropriations Bill (GAB).
- Respondent engaged in graft and corruption through kickbacks and ghost projects.
- Respondent created the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) to shield corrupt allies.
- Respondent violated the Constitution and betrayed public trust by surrendering former President Duterte to the ICC.

Prior to the filing of an impeachment rap against the President, amid the talks, Malacañang claimed that Pres. Bongbong Marcos is ready to face any impeachment complaint that may be filed against him. According to Palace press officer undersecretary Claire Castro, the President did not steal money from the people.
After an impeachment complaint was filed against him, Malacañang claimed that Marcos Jr. is not bothered by it. Atty. Claire Castro stressed that the President is confident that he did not commit any mistake.

A lawmaker previously claimed that House Majority Leader and Ilocos Norte Cong. Sandro Marcos allegedly has “no choice” but to process the impeachment complaint against Pres. Bongbong Marcos. The Makabayan bloc also attempted to file an impeachment rap against the President.

Cong. Sandro Marcos previously claimed that the House of Representatives will not block any impeachment complaint even against his father. Recently, the presidential Son who is also the House Majority Leader stepped back from participating in the processes and discussions over the impeachment complaint filed against Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
The younger Marcos stressed that his decision is “not a retreat from responsibility, but as an affirmation of it”. According to him, the House rules do not require him to inhibit from the processes but he wants to preserve the integrity of the the chamber and protect the credibility of its processes.

Cong. Sandro Marcos claimed that leadership sometimes calls for restraint rather than participation. On his recusal from participating in the processes over the impeachment complaint filed against his father, Pres. Bongbong Marcos, he wants to make sure that “no question may be raised about the fairness, objectivity, or legitimacy of the process”.
