Bureau of Immigration Arrests Russian Vlogger Over Threats About Spreading HIV in Philippines
A 21-year-old Russian vlogger was arrested by the Bureau of Immigration after his online videos caused fear and concern among the public.
The foreign national went viral on social media after posting content that included threats about spreading HIV while staying in the Philippines.
The vlogger was identified as Nikita Chekhov, a Russian citizen who arrived in the country on January 15 after traveling from Shanghai, China. Just days after his arrival, he began uploading videos filmed in public areas, including a popular spot in Taguig.

The posts quickly gained attention online, not because of entertainment value, but due to the alarming nature of his statements.
Authorities said the videos created unnecessary panic, especially since HIV is a serious health issue. Many netizens expressed anger and worry, calling for immediate action to protect public safety.
The Bureau of Immigration responded by tracking Chekhov and arresting him inside a condominium unit in Quezon City through its Fugitive Search Unit.
Following his arrest, Chekhov was taken to the Bureau of Immigration’s detention facility, where he remains while deportation proceedings are being prepared. Immigration officials stressed that foreign nationals who enter the country must respect local laws, culture, and public welfare.
Acts that cause fear, spread misinformation, or abuse Filipino hospitality are treated seriously by authorities.
The Bureau of Immigration also coordinated with the Department of Health to address any possible health concerns related to the case. Officials reassured the public that there was no confirmed report of actual disease transmission linked to the vlogger but emphasized that threats alone can still cause harm and panic.
