Suspended Cong. Kiko Barzaga Faced w/ Cyberlibel Charges Filed by Billionaire Enrique Razon
KIKO BARZAGA – The suspended Cavite Congressman bared his condition in accepting his “expulsion” from the House of Representatives.
Amid the flood control issue in the Philippines, some young congressmen in the House of Representatives hooked attention. One of them is Cong. Barzaga who is representing the 4th District of Cavite in the lower house.
Barzaga hooked attention for speaking against the Marcos Jr. administration in his own unique way that earned different reactions from the Filipino people. He even led a rally to call for the resignation of the President amid the flood control issue.
The House of Representatives suspended Cong. Kiko Barzaga for 60 days due to his alleged “offensive” social media posts. His suspension visibly did not silence the young congressman who recently dragged a business tycoon in the corruption issue in the government.
Billionaire Enrique Razon filed cyberlibel case against Cong. Barzaga after he linked him to former House Speaker Martin Romualdez and the alleged corruption in the House of Representatives. The ports and casino magnate is asking the young Congressman at least P110 million for moral and exemplary damages.
The case stemmed from Barzaga’s claim that Razon allegedly bribed several congressmen to retain Romualdez in the position in the 20th Congress. In a now-deleted post, the young Congressman also called for the imprisonment of the billionaire businessman.
Razon stressed that Barzaga’s statement against him has “crossed the line from political speech into criminal defamation” and damaged his reputation. His camp also claimed that it caused the businessman emotional distress. However, the multi-million case did not stop Barzaga.
Through another post on social media, Cavite Cong. Kiko Barzaga also bared his condition in accepting his “expulsion” from the House of Representatives. According to him, he will accept it as long as those who are involved in the flood control scam will share the same fate with him.
Amid the impeachment talks against the Vice President, Cong. Kiko Barzaga revealed why he is against an impeachment case against Vice Pres. Sara Duterte.
