Indecent proposals to celebrities are common, but by definition, this gesture is an unsolicited, inappropriate, or exploitative offer. This includes money, gifts, career favors, or influence in exchange for something like romantic or intimate acts.
In the Philippine showbiz, among those who have experienced this is actress-vlogger Ivana Alawi. There’s no doubt that she is among the most beautiful stars of today, and recently, in an interview, she was asked by Karen Davila how she deals with this offensive proposal.
As much as we all know, this offensive gesture also raises concerns and questions about abuse of power, objectification of artists, pressure on young or aspiring talents, and the mental and emotional toll on celebrities.
Addressing this, Alawi shared that she sometimes becomes disrespectful as a response, and there were also times that she would just simply ignore them.
She shared based on the video, “Kunwari nag-work ako and then ime-meeting kami with my manager. Tapos ‘Ivana, pwede bang makuha ang number mo? Meron lang kaming idi-discuss na important.’ Maya-maya “Hello, dinner tayo. Ganda-ganda mo.'”
Despite how common these proposals are in the industry and the fact that not everyone can refuse them, she has no difficulty saying no. It depends on people, but for her, as long as she has a home, food to eat, and money of her own, she’s contented. She shared that the indecent proposals only began when she was already well-known.
As advice to women, she stressed that a firm and simple “no” is already an answer—no explanations or further statements needed. If others choose not to refuse, that is their decision. What she firmly believes is that women can succeed through hard work and dedication, and that they do not need a man to achieve success.
