ABS-CBN actor Richard Gutierrez has this to say when asked about his sons joining the show business industry.
Zion and Kai are the sons of celebrities Richard Guttierez and Sarah Lahbati. The couple might have gone their separate ways for a long time now, but for their sons, they were able to find a way to co-parent.
In an interview with Bianca Gonzalez on The B Side of Cinema One, he shared that on weekends, he brings his kids to tapings. Technically, the set has become their playground, and while shooting for his newest film, they have visited them several times.
This is the same case with his other projects, allowing them to see how scenes are done, particularly action scenes.
As a father, will he allow his children to join the industry? In the same interview, he shared that Zion, his 12-year-old son, is now showing signs of curiosity. According to him, his son has been watching a lot of movies lately, which, for him, is good. He is also into singing.
In terms of joining showbiz, he is mentally preparing himself for this. However, for him, education remains more important. He’d rather they finish their education first before entering show business.
“So medyo nire-ready ko na rin sarili ko sa ganun ‘pag gusto niya [mag-showbiz] pero gusto ko sana tapusin niya muna ‘yung school niya bago siya mag-showbiz,” he said.
As a father, he tries hard to balance his roles as a disciplinarian and as a best friend to them. He is strict when it comes to their school and habits, and at the same time, he also brings them to their basketball games. He makes sure to guide them while still being a friend.
