Recently, Joymelyn Godinez, a Facebook user, shared her experience after she was allegedly sexually harassed by a male passenger while riding a public jeepney. The post garnered various reactions from netizens.
According to the woman, the incident happened while she was on her way home from work. While waiting for a jeepney, she noticed a man staring at her in an uncomfortable way but chose to ignore it. Once inside the jeep, the man sat beside her.
Godinez focused on her phone and tried to mind her own business, not realizing at first what was happening.
As the ride continued, the man repeatedly moved his hand from his pocket, brushing it against her leg several times. At first, she thought it was only because the jeep was crowded. However, the situation worsened when the man placed his hand on her back and touched her waist. At that moment, she realized it was no longer accidental.
Joymelyn tried to move away and pushed his hand aside, but it was difficult because the jeep was full. Despite this, the man continued his actions. She later gathered courage and stared at him firmly.
Another male passenger sitting in front of her noticed what was happening and showed signs that he was aware of the situation.
For her own protection, she took a photo of the man as evidence. When the man noticed this, he appeared nervous and got off the jeep earlier than expected. The woman, already overwhelmed with fear and anger, reacted as he stepped down.
After the incident, the experience left her shaken, frustrated, and emotionally distressed. She shared her story to raise awareness and to warn other women to stay alert while commuting.
