Jeepney Driver Offers Free Rides to Celebrate Son’s Success as Civil Engineer

A jeepney driver earned admiration online after giving free rides to passengers to celebrate his son’s success in the Civil Engineering Board Exam.

Recently, the Facebook page LTFRB Region XI – Davao shared photos of the jeepney driver who provided free rides to commuters after his son passed the Civil Engineering Board Exam. The post elicited comments online.

Edwin Recososa, 53, proudly announced that his son, Dave Rusty Recososa, passed the Civil Engineering Licensure Examination and he chose to share that joy with the passengers he serves every day.

On December 1, 2025, commuters along Roxas Boulevard Avenue found an unexpected surprise inside Edwin’s jeepney. Instead of the usual reminder to prepare their fare, they saw a handwritten sign saying that all rides were free for the day.

The message expressed his gratitude to passengers, explaining that because of their daily support, he was able to send his son to college and witness him become an engineer.

A commuter named Judy Tereso shared the moment on Facebook, and the story quickly went viral. Many praised Edwin’s kindness and dedication, admiring how a simple gesture captured a father’s pride and gratitude.

LTFRB Region XI also recognized him, noting how drivers like Edwin show the value of hard work and heartfelt service.

Edwin has been driving since he was 18, and the jeepney has been his family’s main source of income. He shared that he once dreamed of becoming an engineer himself, but life circumstances pushed him to give up that dream.

Instead, he invested everything he could into helping his son pursue the path he once wanted. Seeing Dave pass the board exam felt like seeing his own dream come true through his child.

Dave, now set to join the Department of Public Works and Highways as one of its new young engineers, said he did not expect his father to celebrate in such a touching way.
