Palace Speaks on Order of Marcos Jr. to Gov’t Agencies after Calamities Struck PH

MARCOS JR. – The President called on the government agencies for “simple Christmas and year end celebrations” after a series of calamities hit some parts of the Philippines.

Several areas in Visayas were severely hit by Typhoon Tino that brought massive rains and strong winds. The heavy rainfall triggered the overflowing of dams that greatly-contributed to the massive flooding in the province.

The floodwater in Cebu reached the roof of the single-storey houses. Many residents climbed their rooftops to evade the high-level floodwater. Unfortunately, Typhoon Tino’s death toll has reached at least 92 fatalities in Cebu.

Prior to the tragic impact of Typhoon Tino in Cebu, several areas in the province were also left devastated by the strong quake that hit hard in the town of Bogo. Aside from Cebu, #TinoPH also caused flooding in the province of Negros where fatalities were also recorded.

Malacañang

“Mahalaga ang pagdiriwang ng pasko nang may pag-aalala sa kapwa natin na patuloy na bumabangon mula sa maraming kalamidad na tumama sa bansa,” Malacañang press officer undersecretary Claire Castro said.

Based on a report on The Manila Times, Malacañang added that while Marcos Jr. appreciates the traditional celebrations, he wants the government agencies to redirect their focus on helping the communities affected by the calamities. He has also ordered his Cabinet officials to travel to the provinces affected by Typhoon Tino to ensure that the government aid reaches their area.
