Vice Pres. Sara Duterte Speaks on Corruption Problem in PH
SARA DUTERTE – The Vice President criticized the alleged ‘slow response’ of the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the corruption problem in the Philippines.
Following the creation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, House Speaker Bojie Dy announced that the flood control probe is best left to the ICI. The House of Representatives stopped its flood control probe amid several congressmen being accused of allegedly receiving “kickback” from the flood control projects.
The Senate continued with its investigation but it has yet to resume its probe after Senator Ping Lacson resigned from being the chairman of the Blue Ribbon Committee. Currently, the investigation is done by the ICI which was formed upon the order of Pres. Bongbong Marcos.
The ICI ordered the authorities to ensure that there are sufficient pieces of evidence against the people who are involved in the supposed multi-billion flood control corruption. The three-member body is led by former Supreme Court Justice Andres Reyes, Jr.
The ICI has already invited several individuals tagged in the flood control issue including senators Chiz Escudero and Joel Villanueva, former House Speaker Martin Romualdez, and controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya. However, the contractors recently withdrew their cooperation with the commission.
According to the ICI, the Discayas stopped cooperating in the flood control probe after ICI member Rogelio Singson claimed that no one has yet to qualify to become a state witness. Meanwhile, the commission assured that there are enough sources to build a case.
Newly-appointed Ombudsman Boying Remulla vowed that he will speed up the resolution of the case. Amid the ongoing flood control probe in the Philippines and the creation of the ICI, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte criticized the alleged ‘slow response’ of the office of Pres. Bongbong Marcos on the corruption problem in the country.
Based on a post of News5 on social media, Vice Pres. Sara Duterte believes that Pres. Bongbong Marcos allegedly cannot name those who are involved in corruption as it will reach his office. The Vice President pointed out that Marcos Jr. signed the national budget.
“Palagay ko hindi rin niya masabi dahil aabot siya sa sarili niya, sa Office of the President, dahil pumirma po siya ng budget, eh. ‘Pag pumirma ka po ng budget at sinabi po niya binasa niya, page per page, 5000 pages ang budget. So ibig sabihin nakita mo ‘yung insertion pero wala kang ginawa,” the Vice President said.
Amid the flood control issue in the country, there are calls for the President to step down. However, according to Vice Pres. Sara Duterte, she has a different call for Marcos Jr. as she believes he will not resign.
