EARTHQUAKE – The Phivolcs recorded a 4.2 magnitude quake in Surigao del Norte today, October 15, 2025. Here are the details.

Following the 7.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Davao Oriental a few days ago, another significant quake was recently recorded by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) in the same province. According to the agency, the quake recently hit Surigao del Norte and it has a magnitude of 4.2.

The earthquake that struck Surigao del Norte at 07:32 a.m. today, October 15, 2025, was tectonic in origin. A tectonic quake is a shaking which is a product when the Earth’s crust breaks because of the geological forces on the rocks and the adjoining plates which result to chemical and physical changes.

According to Phivolcs, the earthquake that hit a part of Surigao del Norte was located at 10.04°North, 126.36°East – 031 km North 85° East of Burgos. It had a depth of focus of 009 kilometers. The quake-recording bureau said both damages and aftershocks are not expected from the said quake.
