PCO Speaks on Orders of Marcos Jr. Following Strong Quake in Davao Oriental
MARCOS JR. – The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said the President has ordered “round-the-clock” rescue and relief operations for the Davao Oriental quake victims.
A 7.6 magnitude earthquake that was later on reduced to 7.4 magnitude hit off the coast of Manay, Davao Oriental yesterday. According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology or Phivolcs, the epicenter of the quake was located at 7.07°North, 127.06°East off shore Manay.

Phivolcs raised a tsunami warning following the strong quake that jolted Davao Oriental. The quake had a depth of 10 kilometers and the residents living near the coastal areas were advised to evacuate.
The quake-recording bureau told the residents of the coastal areas in Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Surigao del Sur, and nearby provinces to swiftly move to a higher ground or move farther inland for their safety. Immediately, Pres. Bongbong Marcos assured that the government is assessing the ground situation following the Davao Oriental earthquake. He also confirmed that the authorities are making sure that everyone is safe.

Then, Marcos Jr. said they are already preparing search, rescue, and relief operations for the victims of the said Davao Oriental quake. Several strong aftershocks followed the tremor that cause countless residents to rush out of their homes, buildings, schools, and even out from the medical facilities that there were in.

Recently, the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) assured that Marcos Jr. has already instructed the concerned agencies to provide for the needs of the victims of the earthquake that hit Davao Oriental. Based on a report on Inquirer, PCO Sec. Dave Gomez stressed that the concern of the Chief Executive is the safety of the people.
“The President’s paramount concern is the safety and well-being of our people in the earthquake-struck areas,” Gomez said.
Based on the report, the PCO further expressed that Marcos Jr. had instructed the concerned agencies to provide “round-the-clock” rescue and relief operations to the victims of the earthquake in Davao Oriental. As of this writing, the death toll due to the quake is at 7.
“On the instructions of the President, all concerned frontline agencies were tasked to work round-the-clock to provide rescue and relief operations,” the PCO Secretary said.
