Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano Posts Thought of Giving Filipino People Fresh Start

ALAN PETER CAYETANO – The Senator floated the idea of a snap election in the Philippines amid the alleged declining public trust due to corruption issues in the government.

Several government officials are accused of allegedly receiving kickbacks from the flood control projects. They are members of the House of Representatives and the Senate. Both chambers had a change of leadersip amid the flood control mess.

Sen. Chiz Escudero was ousted and replaced by now Senate President Tito Sotto after the former admitted to receiving a P30-million campaign donation from a contractor flagged by Pres. Bongbong Marcos. Escudero is also accused of allegedly receiving a P160-million kickback from the flood control project.

In the House of Representatives, presidential cousin and Leyte Congressman Martin Romualdez resigned from being the House speaker amid the flood control corruption accusations. He and some congressmen were name-dropped by controversial contractors Curlee and Sarah Discaya in the kickback issue.

Aside from a change of leadership, the Senate President Pro Tempore and the Senate Majority Leader were also changed after both senators Jinggoy Estrada and Joel Villanueva are accused of allegedly receiving kickback from the flood control projects. They are replaced by the Senate President Pro Tempore Ping Lacson and Senate Majority Leader Migz Zubiri.

Recently, amid the alleged decline of public trust due to the corruption issues in the Philippines. Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano floated the idea of a snap election in the country. Based on a report on PhilStar, his proposal covers the president, the vice president, and all members of th Senate and the House of Representatives.

Cayetano stressed that the Filipinos have allegedly lost confidence in government officils and institutions. According to him, politicians are supposedly viewed as “suspects” in the eyes of the public now.

“Honestly, who can blame them? So here’s a thought: what if we all just resign and allow a snap election… with one important addition—no incumbent from the above can run for one election cycle,” the Senate Minority Leader.

Based on the report, Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano said the bureaucracy can allegedly continue functioning without the elected leaders. According to him, the local officials which he called as “generally trusted” can remain in place.

“No drama, no excuses, no recycling. Just a clean slate for the Filipino people. A turning point leading to renewal and revival.

If we truly serve them, then starting over shouldn’t scare us. Because real change starts with radical honesty – and the courage to admit when it’s time to step aside,” he expressed.

Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano was one of the senators who voted “yes” in urging the Senate to call for a house arrest for former Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte. He stressed “humanitarian treatment” for the former President.
