Cebu Earthquake, Taal Eruption, Paolo PH Happen Within 12 Hours In Philippines

The Cebu earthquake and these other natural occurrences transpired all within 12 hours.

CEBU EARTHQUAKE – The deadly tremor, eruption of Taal, and the development of an LPA into a tropical depression happened in the Philippines.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has previously recorded a 6.7 magnitude earthquake in Bogo City, Cebu. Later on, the agency upgraded the magnitude to 6.9, and shortly after, hundreds of aftershocks followed.

Cebu Earthquake

Based on a previous article, over 990 aftershocks following the deadly earthquake have been recorded. Rescue efforts are underway, and the death toll has already risen to 69. This has prompted the local government to declare a state of calamity. The earthquake struck just a little over a week after the country was battered by back-to-back typhoons that claimed more than 20 lives.

Following the back-to-back typhoons, another tropical depression has formed within the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), locally known as Paolo PH. Based on the latest update from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

As per the latest, Signal No. 1 was raised in these areas:

  • Luzon
    • The eastern and central portions Isabela (Alicia, San Mateo, Aurora, San Mariano, Ramon, Naguilian, Dinapigue, Roxas, San Guillermo, Luna, City of Cauayan, Echague, Ilagan City, Angadanan, Benito Soliven, City of Santiago, Reina Mercedes, San Agustin, San Manuel, Palanan, Cabatuan, Quirino, Gamu, San Isidro, Cordon, Jones, Burgos, Maconacon, Divilacan, Tumauini), Quirino, the northern and central portions of Aurora (Dilasag, Casiguran, Dinalungan, Dipaculao, Baler, Maria Aurora, San Luis), and the northern portion of Catanduanes (Pandan, Bagamanoc, Panganiban, Viga)

The Taal Volcano also erupted early Wednesday morning, according to Phivolcs. Alert Level 1 remains raised at Taal Volcano. The phreatic or steam-driven eruption occurred between 12:57 AM and 1:02 AM, and the second, a stronger phreatomagmatic eruption, occurred from 2:02 AM to 2:15 AM. The eruption ended at 2:15 AM.
