Students & Teachers in Bacolod Expresses Sentiments for Being Already at School Before Class Suspension Announced

Several students and teachers in Bacolod City were already at school before the class suspension was announced.

On Monday morning (September 1, 2025), some students and teachers were already on their way to school, when they learned that classes and government work had been suspended due to heavy rains.

The announcement from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) was posted on its official Facebook page at around 5:38 a.m. The post came before local government units were able to coordinate and release their own advisories.

Bacolod City was included in the list of affected areas, along with Metro Manila, Cavite, Bulacan, Laguna, Quezon, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Albay, Catanduanes, Sorsogon, Masbate, Northern Samar, Occidental Mindoro, Antique, Negros Occidental, Pampanga, and Rizal.

Mayor Greg Gasataya quickly confirmed the suspension for Bacolod and released a similar announcement through DILG-Bacolod.

By the time the news spread, many students were already waiting at jeepney stops, ready to head to school. Some parents and guardians had also accompanied their children. Teachers and students were spotted inside Andres Bonifacio Elementary School II (ABES 2), unaware that classes had been canceled.

Those who were already inside the school or on the way were met by fellow students and school staff, who informed them of the suspension. Tricycles carrying students were greeted by others who had arrived earlier, who shared the news to save them from going inside the school grounds.

Students felt a mix of relief and disappointment for waking up early for school. Despite the confusion, many were seen smiling and chatting with friends as they headed home, turning the rainy morning into an unexpected free day to rest and stay safe.

The social media users expressed their reactions to the post:
