Cardinal Tagle Chides Greed amid Possibly Anomalous Multi-Billion Flood Control Deals in PH

During Homily, Cardinal Tagle Speaks of Greed as PH Gov’t Probes Ghost, Failed Flood Control Projects

Cardinal Tagle chided greed amid the possibly anomalous multi-billion flood control projects in the Philippines.

The issues about the different multi-billion projects in the government earned different opinions from the Filipino people. A few days ago, in a press conference, Pres. Bongbong Marcos exposed that PH has spent over P500-billion for the flood control projects — an “enormous” amount as described by the President.

According to Marcos Jr., 20% of the total P545-billion spending on the flood control projects went to 15 contractors. PBBM also revealed that five (5) of the contractors got government flood control deals in almost all regions in the country.

Bulacan has the most number of flood control projects under the Marcos administration. The province got 668 flood control projects. However, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was left disappointed by an incomplete flood control project made of substandard materials in Bulacan. According to him, they hired divers and it was found that the cement was very thin.

Aside from that disappointment, Pres. Bongbong Marcos was left “not disappointed but angry” by the “ghost” Riverwall project in Bulacan that cost the government P55-million. Reportedly, the receipts showed that the project is fully-paid but the President arrived to nothing in the area.

Recently, Vatican’s pro-prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle gave the homily during the formal declaration of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aranzazu in Rizal. Based on a report on PhilStar, amid the multi-billion flood control issues in the country, Tagle chided “greed” over the current happenings.

“The known big, great metropolitan cities became seas even with slight rains because of humans and their lack of responsibility,” Cardinal Tagle said.

Tagle was appointed by Pope Leo XIV as the new titular bishop of Albano. Based on the report, he returned to the Philippines for the declaration of the National Shrine of Our Lady of Aranzazu.

“When greed takes over, the land suffers, the seas are ruined, creation is destroyed and even our livelihoods vanish. And when corruption is added to greed, what it bears is not life, but thorns,” Cardinal Tagle said.

Amid the issues, DPWH Secretary Manuel Bonoan hinted at ‘cleansing’ the agency if it is necessary.
