Female Teacher in Calatrava Faces Allegations of Relationship w/ Female Student

Calatrava Teacher Probed Over Alleged Relationship w/ Female Student

CALATRAVA – The Department of Education in Negros Occidental has started an initial probe into a female teacher accused of having a relationship with her female student.

A female secondary school teacher in Calatrava, Negros Occidental, is under scrutiny over allegations of having a romantic involvement with one of her female students. The issue surfaced after a complainant raised the matter to the Department of Education (DepEd) – Division of Negros Occidental.

DepEd Negros Occidental Public Information Officer Ian Arnold Arnaez told Bombo Radyo Bacolod that the complainant not only reported the alleged relationship but also claimed that the teacher had been romantically linked to other students in the past.

While no formal complaint has been submitted, Arnaez said the division has already started a preliminary inquiry into the allegations. He noted that filing an official complaint would enable a more thorough and formal investigation, ensuring proper procedures are followed.

At present, the teacher remains in her post and continues to conduct classes while the matter is being looked into.

Arnaez stressed that any form of romantic relationship between a teacher and a student is strictly prohibited, as it breaches professional ethical standards. Being government employees, educators are required to uphold these standards and act with the highest level of integrity.

He also pointed out that such relationships tarnish the image of both the school and the teaching profession. They can also disrupt the academic environment, potentially leading to favoritism, bias, or even abuse of authority.

This case highlights the critical need for teachers to maintain professional boundaries, safeguarding both the well-being of students and the dignity of the teaching profession.
