GCash to Introduce New Features to Help Users Limit Online Gambling Access
GCash is introducing new safety features aimed at helping users manage their access to online gambling.
The move comes as part of the company’s effort to support responsible gaming and address growing concerns over the use of digital wallets for gambling activities.
According to Juan Carlo Puno, the Chief Financial Officer of Globe – GCash’s parent company—users will soon be able to set their own top-up limits. They can also choose to temporarily or permanently block themselves from making transactions with gaming merchants.

“Users will now be allowed to actually restrict their ability to engage in gaming activities temporarily or permanently,” Puno said.
These new tools will give users more control over their spending habits, especially those who are at risk of gambling addiction. The company hopes that by providing these options, users can better manage their financial well-being and avoid risky behavior.
GCash is also increasing the number of steps needed to access gaming sites within its app. Previously, it took just three clicks to reach these sites, but this will now be expanded to five, along with reminders about responsible gaming on GLife, GCash’s mini-app marketplace.

In line with regulations from the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR), users aged 20 and below will remain restricted from accessing gambling-related features.
These changes are part of a wider effort by GCash to tighten its policies on gambling-related transactions, especially as new guidelines from the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas are expected to be released soon. Lawmakers have also been urging tighter control over e-wallet services used for gambling.
With these new features, GCash aims to strike a balance between user freedom and safety, while supporting healthier financial habits for millions of Filipinos using the platform.
