Eugene Domingo talked about working with Lea Salonga
Seasoned actress Eugene Domingo revealed why she called Broadway diva Lea Salonga “Santa Lea.”
Eugene has been in the entertainment industry for many years already. Aside from the comedy movies or shows that she did, she also has projects in the world of theater.
Eugene was given a chance to work with Lea in the musical Into The Woods by Stephen Sondheim from the Theater Group Asia.
In the musical, Eugene Domingo plays the role of Jack’s mother while Lea Salonga returns as The Witch. During a recent media conference for this musical, the seasoned actress shared that she has really proven that the Broadway diva is an actress and performer, based on the article in Bandera.
“My Santa Lea! Santa Lea ang tawag ko sa kanya kasi siya na talaga ‘yung kinapitan ko. Lea Salonga! Siguro nakikita n’yo lang siya, parang idol, idol. Grabe ang pagkatao niya,” Eugene shared about her co-star.
The seasoned actress added that she had no time to feel starstruck or whatever. She could only admire how prepared Lea is. Eugene even shared that she was just waiting for Lea to commit a mistake.
“Kasi lagi siyang handa, lagi siyang perfect. Hindi siya nagkakamali. Hinihintay ko siyang magkamali eh, para mapuna ko na, ‘Ay, nagkamali ka!’ Ha-hahaha!” she said.
Then, Eugene said that there was a time when she heard Lea was out of tune, but she found out that the latter was getting emotional already.
“Pagtingin ko, umiiyak pala. Sabi niya, ‘Sorry, this is very sensitive to me.’ Kaya pala medyo naiba ‘yung tono, naiyak pala. Perfect talaga eh! Nakakainis!” she narrated.
With this, Eugene said that the audience can expect a lot of scenes with The Witch that could make people emotional and will touch their hearts.
Then, Eugene Domingo shared that behind the scenes, Lea Salonga is a “totoong tao,” who also says bad words or curses. The seasoned actress even said that most of the time, the Broadway diva is a “marites.” She also shared that Lea is better than the international singer and American Broadway star Bernadette Peters, who originally portrayed the role of The Witch in the original Into The Woods production in 1987.
