People online were concerned after seeing this PNP K9 dog. Here’s the photo.
PNP K9 DOG – “Heroes deserve better” is the cry of many people after seeing this K9’s body handled by the Philippine National Police.
K9 dogs play a crucial role in various fields. They have unique abilities and intelligence, and these are among the reasons that make them helpful in search and rescue, detection work, military operations, security, and protection.

Thanks to their loyalty, sharp intelligence, and specialized training, K9 dogs serve as invaluable partners in ensuring public safety, maintaining security, and supporting humanitarian missions.
Recently, a photo of a police dog used by the Manila Police District-Explosives and Ordnance Division (MPD-EOD) earned attention online. The Belgian Malinois, a breed commonly used in police and military work, was being handled by a uniformed officer.
But what people noticed was the dog’s thin body. Its ribs are showing, which is unlikely for a lean, athletic, and muscular build we are used to. A Reddit user expressed, “Poor K9 dog, all work no food.”
“Isn’t this considered animal abuse? Inaalipin ‘yung aso, tapos hindi man lang maalagaan,” another Redditor commented. The ribs, spine, or hip bones may become visibly prominent if they are malnourished.
The Animal Kingdom Foundation (AKF), a non-government organization, addressed the issue and called out the unit that handles trained canines. In the letter, the AFK stressed the Republic Act No. 8485, as amended by RA 10631, the Animal Welfare Act of the Philippines, which states that “all animals, especially those used for work or public service, are entitled to proper care, nutrition, shelter, and veterinary attention.”
The K9 dogs that serve the country with courage don’t have a voice of their own. Their welfare is “a legal and moral obligation,” and the statement ended with: K9 dogs are also heroes and deserve better treatment.
