Man Suspected to Be Drunk Found Dead Along Toboso Shoreline

Man Believed to Be Drunk Found Lifeless in Toboso, Negros Occidental

A man believed to be drunk was found dead along the shoreline of Barangay Punta Cruz, Poblacion, Toboso, Negros Occidental.

Alcohol intoxication happens when a person drinks too much alcohol and it starts to affect their body and mind. It’s also called being drunk.

When someone is intoxicated, alcohol slows down the brain and nervous system. This can lead to changes in behavior, poor coordination, slurred speech, blurry vision, and trouble thinking clearly. A person might feel dizzy, overly confident, or sleepy.

On Monday afternoon (July 7, 2025), a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol was found lifeless floating near the shoreline along Toboso.

The victim was identified as 48-year-old Emanito Carmelotes, a widowed farmer from Sitio Cotcot, Barangay General Luna, Toboso. According to the police, his family said he left their house between 1:00 to 2:00 in the afternoon to sell goods at the wet market.

However, it was also shared that Emanito had a habit of drinking alcohol before heading out to sell. Police are looking into the possibility that he was already intoxicated when he went to the market.

The area behind the market is near the shoreline. Authorities believe that Emanito may have gone behind the market to relieve himself and accidentally slipped and fell into the water.

The police immediately conducted a postmortem examination, which showed no signs of foul play or physical struggle. The cause of death was confirmed to be drowning.

His sudden death brought sadness to his family and community, especially since he was only trying to do his usual routine of selling at the market.
